The aim of this qualification is to develop the learner’s ability to coach effective sessions in the inclusive martial art environment. Sessions are linked and progressive and underpin effective coaching programmes relevant to the needs of each unique individual and the collective needs of the group.
Learners are required to be technically competent in the martial art of their choice and have successfully achieved black belt and instructor status. The objective is to provide a benefit to these learners by enabling them to fulfil the role of a coach instructor aligned to the inclusive martial arts philosphy.
Whilst attending for this qualification learners will develop the knowledge and skills to that enable them to:
- fulfil duties of a coach
- fulfil duties when working in an inclusive martial arts environment
- fulfil duties when working with children
- fulfil duties when safeguarding children
- drive behaviour change as a coach
- drive behaviour change when working in a inclusive martial arts environment
- drive behaviour change through effective practice when working with children
- meet the deployment expectations of a coach
- meet the deployment expectations when working in the inclusive martial arts environment
- meet the deployment expectations when working with children
- meet the deployment expectations when safeguarding children
- fulfil their deployment expectations of a coach instructor delivering sessions in inclusive martial arts
Learners and benefits
This qualification is for learners that are technically competent and have successfully achieved black belt and instructor status in their chosen martial art discipline and area of expertise. The benefits are aligned to the inclusive nature of the qualification. Learners will understand how to coach across the breadth of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010. Learners will understand how to coach groups whilst also focussing on the unique needs of each individual within the group.
Learner entry requirements
Prior to registration for the qualification learners are required to:
be accurately identified
- be at least 18 years of age
- be able to communicate effectively in English [reading, spoken, listening and writing]
- be able to evidence achievement of a black belt and instructor status in own martial art discipline
Learner exit requirements
Education exit routes: This qualification may support to progression onto other qualifications in coaching, teaching or instructing in the active leisure, learning and wellbeing industry.
Employment exit routes: This qualification may support the learner’s eligibility to gain and retain voluntary or employed roles as an inclusive martial arts coach instructor. This may be in the traditional martial arts instruction environment or whilst fulfilling other roles in the active leisure learning and wellbeing industry. For example, as a community health officer, military professional or fitness professional.
Recognised centre and qualification approval status
This qualification is designed to be delivered through local, regional and national training providers, schools, colleges and universities.
To gain recognition and approval for this qualification all providers must first ensure that their workforce is approved in writing by Ikkaido. Applications will not be accepted from any provider that has not ensured their workforce have been fully orientated by Ikkaido for safety and integrity purposes. We will make the introduction on your behalf upon receipt of a recognition or approval enquiry. You will then be required to complete the recognition and/or approval process in accordance with our systematic process. Your application will be subject to compliance with the centre recognition and qualification approval criteria and conditions
Qualification delivery model
The qualification is designed to be delivered through blended learning techniques. Ideally a combination of webinars and face to face practical sessions should be embedded. A protype delivery model is provided to recognised centres. This is fully aligned to the qualification and in consideration of the industry needs. It should be delivered flexibly to support each centre’s approach and learners needs. Due to the inclusive nature of this qualification alternative models will not be accepted.
Qualification assessment framework
The following assessment methods have been validated for this qualification:
- portfolio of evidence
- practical demonstration
The recognised centre will be granted access to the standardised assessment materials at approval. The assessment tasks provide a clear indication of the knowledge, skills and understanding which will be assessed as part of the qualification. The recognised centre must ensure each learner completes the standardised tasks and tools as designed the awarding organisation. Each task contains the criteria against which learners’ levels of attainment will be measured. This serves to ensure comparable and reliable standards across recognised centres
Qualification quality assurance
Internal and external moderation is required to be conducted in accordance with risk-based tactics. This serves to ensure that the level of monitoring is proportionate to the nature of the qualification, the workforce and the number of learners registered. This qualification has been assigned a medium-risk profile due to its nature. The outcomes of external quality assurance interventions are recorded in via TAMS. Any risks are subsequently captured via the Centre Risk Profile. Centre Recognition Risk profiles provide the emphasis for additional risk controls which are proportionate to any risks presented.
This qualification is developed in partnership with Ikkaido. Ikkaido is the globally registered charity best known for creating mass participation in martial arts for people who are disabled, disadvantaged or living with poverty. Ikkaido unites both disabled and non-disabled participants in the same sessions to learn together about disability, inclusion, equity and volunteering.
Inclusion promoted by Ikkaido refers to ALL protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010. It also refers to ALL martial art forms. This supports mass participation through inclusive practice and effective coaching within the martial arts community at large and on a global scale.
This qualification is supported by Ikkaido as the technical partner. This qualification is being prepared as an endorsement submission to CIMSPA, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity. It is aligned in full to the requirements of the following professional standard:
